Kids do it better

Friday, I had the privilege of being invited to an art exhibition showcasing the work of children from various schools around Copenhagen. The collage artwork below was my favourite. The colour palette is lush combined with the mismatch of textures. I think the interiors market is moving in precisely this direction for coming seasons. It would also make sense, as now we are seeing these blush and natural colour tones in apparel, so soon they will make there way into interiors.

The home below is great for anyone in the kids interior market. I mean here you get an exact look at what kids want. The straw sofa and yellow and red rolled outdoor tiles are genius.

Finally the triangular colour splash tiled roof combined with a white facade and netting curtains is yet another stroke of genius. Where these kids get it from I don’t know, but there bold use of colour and texture is perfect. Always innovative and insanely concise, which means it never has that overdone pretentious feel.

Morten Alsinger’s Workspace

Last week I was lucky to be taken over to Morten Alsinger’s workspace in Nørrebro. Morten is an artist currently working with text and fonts. Inspired by books such as Tangible and Tactile by Robert Klanten and others, his space is filled with cardboard words and letters, some of which will be used in an outdoor exhibition this summer. He also hopes to collaborate with retailers who are looking for innovative signage posts or a new way to speak to the customer in store.

The workspace is ideal for parties and events, so if your looking for a place with a free-spirited and lived-in feel get in contact with Morten who is happy to rent out the space for such occasions. mortenalsinger@hotmail.com

Colour Snapshots for Fall-Winter 2011/12

The Do It Yourself Workshop in Copenhagen is a great place for menswear inspiration. The walls, the tires, the mechanics tool boxes and the machinery form a fresh colour palette of blue and grey hues, colman’s mustard yellow and bright red.

Jean Phillip’s new showroom

Yesterday,  I visited  Jean Phillip’s new showroom in the center of Copenhagen, on Store Kongensgade 75. You walk into an old courtyard and right at the back covered in plants is a small 2 storey building. Inside the stairs and crooked the walls have been stripped bare revealing the old bricks. The white, grey and beige tones are idyllic, and perfect for shooting pictures of his new autumn/winter 2010/11 collection.

Inspired by mountain climbing gear, bulky zippers appear on soft washed silk jackets and lightweight wool/cotton knitwear with unfinished seams. Nudes and sandy tones are paired with white, black and marine blue. Jean Phillip somehow manages to season after season create a new story filled with desirable, extremely well made pieces, while maintaining his signature style.

Tambourine Bag

About a month ago, I met Rikke Hubert, through my friend Chris. Aside from her own line, Hubert, she and Ane Trolle, a well known Danish singer, have created a collection called The Tambourine March which they launched during Copenhagen Fashion Week. My favourite piece is the tambourine bag, which comes in orange and black suede with a horse hair pony tail zipper. http://www.huberttrolle.dk

Kasper wears it well.

The double shirt look is a refreshing look for summer, and paired with overalls fits very well with this summer’s tendencies towards understated puritan looks.

Tie Dye and Black, Tone on Tone Nudes

Whenever friends come back from long holidays I dread the 3 billion never ending picture moment, and usually refuse to take part . This time, however, I decided to sit my restless soul down and look through my friend Claus’s pictures from India, and these three dressed up goats made it very worthwhile.

These goats have got it going on…I mean I had a feeling about tie dye, but goat number one, has just turned that feeling into a certainty. Tie dye combined with dark hairy black looks great. Perhaps skinny black jeans a tie dye long sleeve top and a black hairy vest or fur coat for next winter. I dont think tie dye will quite hit for summer but I could see it starting to creep into autumn/winter.

The last two pictures confirm spring/summer 2010 nude hues and how well they work when playing around with tone on d and layering. I love the lightweight worn away look.

J’adore Playsuits

Friday I stopped by 9PR, to visit lovely Line and Nina, and check out the brands they look after in Copenhagen. They range from Givenchy, See by Chloe, Notabene, Celine and Marc by Marc Jacobs accessories to Danish streetwear label  5 Units and womenswear brands such as Lovely Heart, Vibe Johanssen and Ganni. It was here I spotted this adorable Ganni sailor striped playsuit – coming in April!

Colour Snapshots for Spring-Summer 2010

Back in Copenhagen, the mounds of snow have started to melt, leaving behind dirty white and grey hues. By the lakes, previously a winter white ice-skating wonderland , nude and champagne pink coloured weeds sway back and forth in the brisk wind.

While a burnt orange is peeping through at the tips of the tree branches.

More inspirational beiges, nudes, oranges and rusty hues were spotted at a recent gallery exhibition I visited and outside Osram’s office space.
